Horses of Hoofprint Bay Training and Competitions

Training stats

Training exercises build up your horse's strength and confidence so it qualifies for competitions. The August 2026 dev update also mentions endurance in connection with cross country.

Confidence and desensitization

The team felt confidence maxed out too quickly in the first demo, so they changed it:

  • A warning icon appears before an unprompted gait change, so you can correct the horse in time.
  • A Desensitization course: approach a scary object while watching your horse. Praise it when it is curious; give space and time when it is worried.
  • Full confidence now takes longer, but low confidence is easier to manage.
  • Some personality traits make a horse change gait on its own occasionally, even at full confidence.

Competitions

DisciplineWhat it is
Caprilli testEntry-level test combining precise gait transitions with low jumps
Show jumpingThe classic jumping competition in town
Cross countryA tough late-game discipline for horses with high strength and endurance. Some courses let you choose a shorter path with harder obstacles or a longer path with easier jumps

Competitions pay prize money. Wins raise Prestige; failures lower it.

Trail rides

Trail rides take you through forest, beach and mountain environments. Which trails you can unlock depends on your Prestige. You can also go on walks in the arena and forest — nursing mares bring their foals along.
