Horses of Hoofprint Bay Horse Care Guide

Updated · 1 min read

Care is the heart of daily play. The Steam description calls it "crisp, satisfying care interactions that are grounded in realism without being tedious."

Grooming and hooves

  • Use the brush and hoofpick on your horses.
  • Proper care helps you avoid saddle sores and abscesses.
  • Care happens at the horse care hitching post; its background changes as you upgrade the building.

Injuries and illness

  • Treat scrapes and injuries appropriately when they happen.
  • Letting horses fall seriously ill reduces your Prestige.

Cleanliness and competitions

The August 2026 dev update lists ways to lose Prestige, including competing on dirty horses or without appropriate clothing. Groom before a show.

Personality traits affect care

Horses have traits that change tendencies within existing systems — for example, some get dirty quicker, some are more or less prone to injuries. Traits do not massively change behavior, but they are worth checking when you choose horses.

Staff for a growing herd

Once you own more horses, you can hire staff and assign horses to them for care, training and lessons. See Stable upgrades and staff.

Realism

The team describes itself as "horse girls" who aim to be accurate and educational where it does not hurt the fun. The in-game library explains real equestrian knowledge.

FAQ

Why groom your horse?

Can horses get hurt or sick?

Yes. Scrapes and injuries happen and need treatment, and horses falling seriously ill lowers your Prestige.

Do all horses get dirty at the same rate?

No. Personality traits can make some horses get dirty faster or be more or less prone to injuries.
